My father restored a 1974 MG-B. It turned many heads when we'd drive around town. Frequently it also turned heads as it traveled home on the back of a flatbed truck when its fuel pump would give out. Hence, advice #1: carry an extra fuel pump! Two weeks is an awfully short time to cover so many countries. In order to get the most out of your experience you may want to extend the time or reduce the number of places you'll see. Were it me, I'd stick to taking trains and not having to fuss over parking, getting lost in strange cities, wondering if the car's going to get broken into while I slept, etc. But if I was to make it a road trip, I especially would do it in a car that was a bit more reliable. As for breakdown coverage, check with your insurance agent to see what s/he recommends. They may have an extended, temporary policy you could add just for your trip that might also include towing while abroad. Also check with the RAC if you're a member.
